There is a beautiful park area very close to the apartment, which can provide a pleasant pastime. Just walk up to the end of the street, turn left into Sasvár utca, then the third right into Havashalom utca. Here, the mayor's office will be on the right-hand side, and Tanács park will be opposite. If you continue walking in the continuation of Havashalom utca in Sashalom utca, you will also find Reformátorok tere on your left. You will notice it from afar, because there is also a lookout point from which, in good weather, you can enjoy a fantastic view of the entire city. In the park, walking paths, a cafe, and sculptures make relaxation pleasant.

If you want active recreation, you can use the 800-meter, winding running track starting from Tanács Park, where you can satisfy your exercise needs in a beautiful environment. The Havashalom Bowl is also located here, but you will also find other sports fields.

As a continuation of Reformátorok tere, you will find the slide park in Sashalm, which offers a unique slide opportunity in addition to other sports opportunities.

Bicycle park

If you arrive by bicycle, the district can offer you unprecedented opportunities. Not far from our apartment, at the end of Hermina út, on both banks of the Szilas stream, you will find a special bicycle park with hilly tracks of various difficulty levels, crèche and training tracks, rest areas, games and a buffet.

Szilas creek

The cycle path that runs past Szilas all the way to Naplás tó is definitely recommended for cyclists, but it might also be worth walking there.

Lake Naplás

A little further away, but still in the district, you can find Naplás tó, Budapest's largest body of still water. The lake and its surroundings are a nature reserve. Lake Naplás, together with the nearby forested, marshy and marshy habitats, is an im¬portant resting place for many waterfowl during the spring and autumn bird migration periods. The area's flora and fauna, as well as reptiles and amphibians, are diverse, and the terrapin popu¬lation here has been in the center of attention since 2002. A favorite excursion destination, with the¬matic nature trails, a lookout point, and a summer fishing spot. Bathing in the lake or stepping on its ice in winter is prohibited.

Erzsébet liget

Erzsébet Liget, which is part of the old Russian barracks, can be especially interesting on May Day because of the outdoor fair and free concerts, but there is also a theater and a swimming pool.

Eco market

On Saturdays, very close to our apartment, the Sashalmi tér market operates as an eco-market, where you can buy directly from the producers. The market also has many services, shops, grills, bakeries, confectioneries, restaurants, etc. can also be found.

Things to see in Budapest

Although the sights of Budapest hardly need to be introduced to anyone, we have collected a few below as a reminder for those who have not yet visited our city.

Parlament

Az Országház Budapest egyik legismertebb középülete, a Magyar Országgyűlés székhelye. A Duna bal partján, a Kossuth Lajos téren található. (Az The Parliament is one of Budapest's best-known public buildings, the seat of the Hungarian Parliament. It is located on the left bank of the Danube, on Kossuth Lajos tér. (The easiest way to get to the apartment is to take the HÉV to Örs vezér tér, and from there take metro number 2 to Kossuth tér.)

Based on the plans of Imre Steindl, the building was born in the spirit of historicizing eclecticism, with a baroque floor plan and a baroque mass effect, and its details are basically neo-gothic. The building is 268 m long, 123 m wide and 96 m high, with a floor area of 17,745 square meters. There are 90 sculptures outside and 152 inside, for a total of 242 sculptures on the walls, and frescoes and paintings by famous artists also adorn the Parliament. The Holy Crown and other coronation badges are on display in the Parliament.

Buda castle

The Várhegy plateau, located 70 meters above the Danube and 175 meters above sea level, was historically a good strategic position. Its construction started in 1243, then IV. Hungarian King Béla built his fortress here after the Tatar invasion, and Mátyás Hunyadi the capital of his kingdom. One of the most visited areas of the city, it is characterized by narrow streets lined with colorful old medieval houses. On its territory, there are many monuments of medieval origin, as well as 17th and 18th century century houses and public buildings. There are three main parts of the Buda Castle Quarter: the Buda Castle, Szent György Square and the historic residential quarter. The offices of the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister are also located here.

Fisherman's bastion

The Buda Castle is one of the most famous attractions, one of the best-known monuments in Budapest. The unique panorama of Budapest, visible from the neo-Romanesque viewing terraces, unfolds before us. The main facade of the Fisherman's Bastion, parallel to the Danube, is about 140 meters long, of which the length of the southern corridor wing is about 40 meters, the northern one 65 meters, while the decorative middle parapet wall is 35 meters long. Its stone towers with peaked caps symbolize the seven conquering leaders of Hungary.

Heroes' Square

Hősök tere is Budapest's largest and most influential square. The three main elements of the square are the Art Gallery built in 1896, the Fine Arts Museum opened in December 1906, and the Millen¬nium Monument that visually connects the two. There are statues of 14 emblematic historical figures, with an obelisk in the middle, and a statue of the Archangel Gabriel on top, which won the grand prize at the 1900 Paris World Exhibition. Hősök tere, together with Andrássy út lying in front of it, is part of the world heritage.

Városliget

Városliget is one of the largest public parks in Budapest, with an area of approximately 1 km². The Városligeti lake is located here, part of which is used as an artificial ice rink in winter. In the park you can also find many other attractions, such as the Capital Zoo and Botanical Garden, museums, spa, Vajdahunyad Castle, House of Hungarian Music, etc.

Széchényi bath

It is one of the largest spa complexes in Europe, in which there are 21 open and covered pools filled with medicinal water. Various medical treatments can be used in the spa, and day hospitals also operate.

Vajdahunyad castle

A copy of the Vajdahunyad castle, which originally stood in Transylvania, can be found in the Városliget, which can be reached via four bridges. The castle houses the Hungarian Agricultural Museum and a chapel. It consists of a series of pavilions built in different architectural styles, the ensemble's constituent pavilions are replicas of several emblematic buildings from different parts of the medieval Kingdom of Hungary.

House of Hungarian music

The modern building designed by the Japanese architect Sou Fujimoto, which has won several prestigious awards, reveals countless experiences of music to its visitors with its diverse program offer. In the institution's permanent exhibitions, both universal and Hungarian music history play an important role, and its programs cover all musical styles.

Museum of Ethnography

The Museum of Ethnography in Budapest is one of Europe's major specialist museums, and thanks to its new building, completed in 2022, it is one of the most modern ethnographic institutions in the world. In addition to nearly 225,000 ethnographic objects, the collection includes unique photographs, manuscripts, photographs, folk music and film recordings. Its building is also an open cultural space, which, with its unique appearance, is a defining attraction of modern architecture.

Gellért hill, Citadella

The Citadella is a fortress on top of Gellért Hill, which was built in 1854 after the defeat of the 1848-49 War of Independence. It is as emblematic of Budapest as the Statue of Liberty is of New York. The citadel offers an excellent panoramic view of the city, as we can see the Buda Castle, the Parliament, the Danube bridges and the entire Pest side at the same time.

Great Market Hall

It is one of the largest covered markets in Budapest, and also one of the most beautiful buildings of its kind in Europe. A huge building with a roof covered with Zsolnay tiles, where you can buy quality food and Hungarian souvenirs.

Opera house

It is the only theater in Hungary with a large troupe and specifically specialized in operas and ballets. The building is one of Budapest's most significant 19th-century monuments. It was built in Neo-Renaissance style based on the designs of Miklós Ybl. Renowned Hungarian artists collaborated in the design of the richly decorated interior spaces.

Downtown

There are many pedestrian streets and squares in downtown Budapest. The most prominent of these are Váci utca, Vörösmarty tér and József Nádor tér. Váci utca, Budapest's famous shopping and pedestrian street, runs nearly two kilometers long, from Vörösmarty tér to the Vásárcsarno. Halfway, at the Erzsébet bridge, Kossuth Lajos street crosses it. The northern part of Váci utca is lined with many fashion brand stores, while the southern part is better known for souvenir shops and bistros.

Saint Stephen's Basilica

The Basilica of St. Stephen is a Neo-Renaissance style building in downtown Budapest. This is one of the most important church buildings in Hungary, one of the most visited landmarks in Budapest, the guarding place of Szent Jobb. The building is 96 meters high, 87.4 meters long, and 55 meters wide, making it the third tallest building in the capital. Its capacity is eight thousand people.

Synagogue

Europe's largest synagogue is located in Dohány Street in Budapest. Built in the neo-Moorish style, the building, which can accommodate 3,000 people, stands in the former Jewish quarter, where many people of the Jewish religion still live today, who keep the traditions to this day. In its yard stands a memorial reminiscent of a sad willow tree, on the leaves of which the names of the martyrs of the Holocaust have been immortalized. On the tree approx. There are 30,000 letters, almost all of which have a name on them.

Danube-korzó, Vigadó

If you are walking in the city center, you should look out for the Danube promenade, the pedestrian area between the Chain Bridge and the Elizabeth Bridge, which is lined with sculptures, restaurants, cafes, terrace bars and casinos. Of these, the Vigadó building stands out, a uniquely beautiful building that was the venue for a wide variety of balls and social events, where the best-known composers of the era Liszt, Wagner, Brahms, Debussy and Bartók performed.

Margaret island

Margaret Island is a 2.5 km long, 500 meter wide island on the Danube, in the northern part of Budapest. You can also find a Japanese garden, a petting zoo, Franciscan and Dominican monastery ruins, a swimming pool and a musical fountain.

Aquincum

Aquincum was a Roman military camp and civil settlement in the area of today's Budapest, the capital of the eastern half of Pannonia. The written history of the Budapest area begins with the Roman garrison, Aquincum, which was founded around 89 on the right bank of the Danube, near a Celtic settlement. A little south of Aquincum there is also an Amphitheater, but only its ruins remain.
